Matt Hughes Retiring (from fighting)...my thoughts!!

What's going on MMA world!! It is The MMA A-Hole back here again for a suprising "third" blog this week!! This blog is going to be alittle more serious, but will show my "A-Hole" personality that everyone loves to hear blog after blog!! Like most of you are now aware of, one of the best welterweight champion of all-time has finally decided to call it a fighting career! UFC President Dana White announced yesterday at the UFC on Fox press conference that Former Matt Hughes was calling it quits (as for as a fighter) He will remain on as the UFC's VP of athletes development. Even though I am happy (not only for the UFC), but to Matt as he moved on with his career outside of the cage! Growing up watching the UFC, there were two fighters that I watched mostly Tito Ortiz and Matt Hughes. I know that you all (who are reading this is thinking..How can you like someone that talks so much crap and someone that doesnt talk alot..right? Well, I do like the trash talker (Ortiz, Rampage, etc), but I also like the guys who go out there regardless of the opponent and fight (Sonnen & Hughes), Unlike any member from Gayhouse that bitch and complain about a minior injury. I don't think anyone out there will disagree with me that Matt Hughes is a top 3 best Welterweight ever in Mixed Martial Arts!! The stats dont lie: - 2x UFC Welterweight Championship - Seven successful title defenses - Most wins in the UFC with 18 - Two separate six-fight win streaks in the UFC - Defeated six former or current UFC champions (GSP, Matt Serra, BJ Penn, Dave Menne, Sean Sherk, and Carlos Newton) - 7 successful welterweight title defenses (tied with GSP) - 12 title fights in the UFC welterweight division - Tied (Tito Ortiz) for third most consecutive title defenses in UFC history (Five) - Second most title fights in UFC history (Twelve) - Second most finishes in UFC title fights (Eight) - Second most fights in UFC history (Twenty-five) - UFC Hall-of-Famer (2010) - 45 Pro wins Now that I got the stats out of the ways. Let me share my top 5 favorite moments in Matt Hughes fighting career: 5) UFC 98 fight vs. Matt Serra (The buildup and hatred for these two fighters was AMAZING!!) 4) UFC 60 fight vs. Royce Gracie (Granted the fight was short, but it was a passing of the torch fight for me) 3) Matt Hughes choking out Frank Trigg at UFC 45 in the first round. (That was when I was like...this guy is going to be someone special) 2) UFC 52 Trigg vs Hughes 2...Trigg was dominating this fight (no thanks to a low- blow by Trigg), but Hughes lift Trigg up after being dominated and carry him to the other side of the cage and slam him now soo hard that I though Trigg was actually "Dead"!! 1) Welterweight Title Bout vs Carlos Newton at UFC 34. I didnt like Carlos Newton back than (I though he was cocky as hell..I know times change..LOL) Newton had him in a triangle choke, but Hughes pick him up and place Newton on the edge of the cage and all of the sudden slam him down so hard that Newton's head bounce off the mat!! Hughes won his first title that night and I couldnt be happier!! I would like to hear everyone best moments of Matt Hughes' fihgting career!! Leave a comment below or send me a email at kurtscourt@gmail.com! All I want to say is Matt, thank you for all what you did iinside the cage!! You are one of the best "True" Warriors out there and good luck in your career opportunity outside of the cage!! A true Hall-of-Famer in my books!! Thanks again!! - The MMA Asshole!!
